Alex Grey's 60th Birthday Celebration
Friday, November 29th, 2013 - 8pm - 2am (doors at 7:30)
Working as an author, photographer, and dubbing himself ‘the experiential mystic’, James Oroc is a citizen of the world who resides between the Dominican Republic, New Orleans, and Black Rock City.
The early version(s) of his book Tryptamine Palace (about the rare entheogen 5-MeO-DMT) is believed to be the first book written for and distributed (gifted) at the Burning Man festival. Since the subsequent publication of the final version of Tryptamine Palace for a global audience by Inner Traditions in 2009, Roc has lectured regularly on the relationship between the endogenous tryptamines (DMT and 5-MeO-DMT) and the Mystical Experience at conferences and visionary festivals around the world. He has also contributed articles to The Entheogen Review, the MAPS journal, and the COSM journal; and is the curator of the recently launched web-information site www.dmtsite.com.

As part of his 60th birthday celebration, Alex will present his Soul's journey through Art. His renowned paintings of glowing anatomical bodies and figures made of fire and eyes "X-ray" the multiple layers of reality and reveal the complex integration of body, mind, soul and spirit. Alex's history begins with childhood reflections on mortality, transgressive performance art and psychedelic experiences that led to the mystical breakthroughs, paintings and sculptures included in his books Sacred Mirrors, The Mission of Art, Transfigurations, Art Psalms, and Net of Being, and to co-founding of CoSM, Chapel of Sacred Mirrors.
Grey's unique series of twenty-one life-sized paintings, the Sacred Mirrors, present the physical and subtle anatomy of an individual in the context of cosmic, biological and technological evolution. Alex's artworks have been exhibited throughout the world and have appeared in venues as diverse as the multi-platinum album art of TOOL, the Beastie Boys and Nirvana, Newsweek & Time magazines, the Discovery Channel and the film "CoSM: The Movie."
